After the Malaysian Prime Minister declared a Movement Control Order (MCO) on 18th March 2020 to deal with the rise and spike of COVID-19 cases, The Edge Malaysia rallies Corporate Malaysia to fight this outbreak by launching an initiative called The Edge COVID-19 Pandemic Funds. It was set in aid to pay homage to the frontliners—as many would call them heroes by showing gratitude and appreciation, for they are the ones putting their lives at risk.
The Edge Media Group publisher and group chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Ho Kay Tat mentioned that after just one week the fund was launched, they have collectively raised money very quickly, all thanks to the great support of businesses and individuals. As of 10th April 2020, RM24.26 million was raised and the funds was already used to send supplies and financial assistance to hospitals across Malaysia.
Java Offshore were among those who have made pledges in The Edge COVID-19 Pandemic Equipment Funds. With the country’s healthcare system and workers under tremendous stress, it is time for all Malaysians to come together and give them a helping hand. “During these challenging times, I am inspired by watching how Malaysians are rallying to support one another and their communities. I hope these contribution would aid our frontline heroes as well as ensure our healthcare system has the needed medical equipment and supplies to fight COVID-19. A big thank you to The Edge Malaysia for providing us this platform” said Rizal Shah, Java Offshore President.
Meanwhile, in view of the recent extended MCO till 28th April 2020, Java Offshore continues to provide full cooperation to address the outbreak and hence ensure that all staff and our stakeholders were to follow the guidelines and stay in during the MCO period. It is vital that all of us practise social distancing and self-isolation as well. Together, we will combat the COVID-19 pandemic as a union and normalcy will resume eventually.
